**Curriculum**

Big Ideas Math Course 1; Record and Practice Journal; chapter resources at teacher's discretion. Click here to access the Big Ideas Math portal.

**Concepts**

Understanding and using ratios & proportional relationships, performing fraction and decimal operations, understanding rational numbers, writing, interpreting, and using expressions, equations, and inequalities, solving problems involving area, surface area, and volume, summarizing and describing distributions, and understanding variability.

**Math Spirals**

All students are responsible for bringing a 3-subject math spiral to class every day. Spirals are divided into three sections: notes and two sections of homework. It is important that you keep your spiral neat and organized so that you can easily find the materials needed.

**Assignment Checks**

At the end of each chapter, students will complete an assignment check. The assignment check is designed to reinforce that students are completing their nightly homework assignments and are actively correcting their mistakes when homework answers are reviewed in class. Five homework problems are selected from the chapter and will appear on the assignment check. Students are allowed to use their spirals while completing this task. To earn full credit, students should turn to the corresponding page in the Homework section of their spiral and copy down what they have shown. This should include the problem, all of their work and the correctly labeled answer. That’s it! It is important that you bring your spiral to class, for it would be impossible to complete your assignment check without it.

**Quizzes and Tests**

Each chapter will include at least one quiz. The quizzes will focus on the skills that are taught in the chapter; whereas the tests will include some skill assessments, but the primary focus will be on the application of the skills.
